Jatiya Party (JP) expressed its satisfaction over the measures taken by the Election Commission (EC) for holding the Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) polls in a free and fair manner today (Thursday), reports BSS.
JP presidium member and Chief Whip of the Opposition in Parliament Tajul Islam expressed the satisfaction while talking to the journalists at the EC Bhaban in the city's Agargaon.
Earlier, a delegation of JP led by Tajul met with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda at his office at the EC Bhaban over the RCC poll issues.
Election Commissioners Md Rafiqul Islam, Brigadier General (Retd.) Shahdat Hossain Chowdhury and Kabita Khanam were present in the meeting.
Tajul said, "We have confidence in the Election Commission and we are happy with what they have done over the RCC polls."
The election to Rangpur City Corporation is a test for the EC, he said, adding the confidence of countrymen will increase if the EC can win the test.
In reply to a query, Tajul said, "We have no complaint against the EC and we want a free, fair and transparent polls."
The JP delegation included presidium members SM Faisal Chishthi, Mir Abdus Sabur Asud, Major (Retd.) Md Khaled Akthar, central executive committee members Mohammad Ali Sheikh and Ashequl Amin.
