Chairman of Jatiya Party (JP) and prime minister's special envoy Hussain Mohammad Ershad said if the JP gets the opportunity to run the government, there will be smiles on every face, reports BSS.
He said the people of the country are not in peace. If the prevailing situation is to change, JP has to be brought back to power.
The former president was speaking to Hindu leaders on the occasion of Lord Krishna's birthday, Janmashtami, at his Banani office.
The meeting was presided by presidium member of JP, Sunil Shuva Roy. Others who spoke at the gathering included Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, secretary-general of the party, and leaders of the Hindu community.
Ershad said several programmes had been taken during his regime for the betterment of Hindus. These included the formation of Hindu Welfare Trust, announcing Janmashtami as national holiday and stopping the Vested Property Act.
Ershad said the country lacks good governance now. Politicisation has paralysed administration. The prevailing situation must be changed in the next election, he said.
