JS body for quick disposal of Aug 21 case trial

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry recommended Thursday taking quick steps to complete the trial of August 21 grenade attack case, reports UNB.

The committee made the recommendation at its 6th meeting, held at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban.

The committee also recommended quick disposal of under-trial cases pending with various courts of the country.

Recommendations were also made at the meeting for quick measures to frame necessary laws in line with the constitution.

Chaired by committee chairman Suranjit Sengupta, the meeting was attended by Law Minister Anisul Haq, MPs Tajul Islam Chowdhury, Shamsul Haque Tuku, Ziaul Haque Mridha and Safura Begum.

Minwhile, Finance Minister AMA Muhith said Thursday that democracy has taken a firm root in Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina.

He was addressing a discussion to mark the 39th death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Bangladesh Krishak League organised the meeting at Jatiya Press Club.

"Now we can say with pride that we've established democracy. We have been able to uphold Bangabandhu's ideology," Muhith said.

He criticised BNP for boycotting the Jan 5 parliamentary election.

"A stupid political party did not take part in the election. But it mattered nothing. Our election was held fairly and we are an elected government," Muhith said.

Paying tribute to Bangabandhu He said though the great leader is dead his ideology is alive.

Addressing the function, Railway Minister Mujibul Hoque demanded immediate execution of the convicted and fugitive killers of Bangabandhu.

Chairman of parliamentary standing committee on the finance ministry Dr Abdur Razzaque , AL Organising Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim MP, Fazilatun Nesa Indira MP and Krishak League general secretary Khandakar Shamsul Haque Reza spoke at the discussion.

It was presided over by Krishak League president Motahar Hossain Molla.
