The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Primary and Mass Education Ministry suggested Tuesday the ministry to take steps for reducing the salary disparity between headmasters and assistant teachers of primary schools, reports UNB.
The committee came up with the recommendation at its fourth meeting held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its chairman Motahar Hossain in the chair.
At the meeting, the latest progress on elevating the post of Primary School to class II was discussed. Besides, a progress report on implementation of the committee's decisions taken at the third meeting was presented.
Under the Basic Education for Hard to Reach Urban Working Children (BEHTRUWC) project taken in 2004, a total of 166,150 children-adolescents were given basic education. Of them, 146,942 children-adolescents have already completed the 40-month basic education.
The committee discussed the standard of the country's primary education and suggested the ministry to take steps for ensuring the quality of education.
The parliamentary watchdog discussed the progress in implementation of Primary Education Development Programmes-3 (PEDP-3).
Under the programme, the Public Health and Engineering Department is now building washrooms and setting up deep tube-wells in primary schools.
The committee recommended strengthening monitoring system and asked the department to place a progress report on implementation of the programme in the committee's next meeting.
