JS body for upgradation of BTV relay stations, relay centres

Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Information Monday recommended for making the Rajshahi sub-station of Bangladesh Television (BTV) a full-fledged broadcasting centre as per the master plan, reports BSS.
The meeting also requested for allocation of necessary fund to procure necessary equipment and construct studios for the centre in next fiscal, a parliament secretariat press release said.
Chairman of the committee Obaidul Qader presided over the meeting while members of the committee Information Minister Abul Kalam Azad, Shahin Monwara Haque, Reza Ali, Sarah Begum Kobori, BM Mozammel Haque and Shahariyar Alam attended the meeting.
The meeting was told that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina while in power inaugurated the sub-station in 2001. But, the project made no headway during the BNP-led alliance government.
The standing committee also recommended for further development of Chittagong Centre of BTV and starting transmission from Sylhet, Barisal and Rangpur relay stations.
The meeting made an appeal to all quarters to make the national programmes on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore a success.
Information Secretary, Principal Information Officer, Director General of BTV, Chief Editor and Managing Director of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and senior officials of various departments and offices under the ministry were present.
