Jatiyo Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President Hasanul Haq Inu has said that the party will demonstrate if the government launches any drive to evict roadside hawkers without rehabilitating them, reports bdnews24.com.
"It will be a question of inhumanity if the government takes a decision to evict them without any plan for their rehabilitation," he said.
He said it was the hard labour of the workers, including the hawkers and rickshaw pullers that helped to turn the wheels of civilisation.
Inu was addressing a discussion on 'Prevailing Problems of the Capital City,' organised marking the 38th founding anniversary of JSD at the Dhaka Reporters' Unity in the city Friday.
Inu also urged the government to take effective measures to resolve different problems of capital.
The JSD, one of the allies of the ruling Awami League, has listed 14 problems in Dhaka metropolitan city and suggested to take initiatives for resolution.
JSD Working President Mainuddin Khan Badal, General Secretary Sharif Nurul Ambia, coordinator of Dhaka Metropolitan unit Mir Hossain, among the others, also attended the discussion.
Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain, while briefing journalists Thursday said that the government would launch a special drive to evict roadside vendors from November 1 in a bid to tackle the capital's traffic congestion.
A letter had already been sent to the home minister to take up steps for the drive, he added.
