JU BCL leader rusticated for assaulting teacher

The authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have rusticated a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader for assaulting a teacher on the campus.

The student Mamun Khan is publicity secretary of JU unit BCL and a Master's student of the JU Urban and Regional Planning Department.

The decision came from a disciplinary board meeting held on Thursday at the Registrar's Building.

Associate Prof. AKM Jasim Uddin also an acting provost of Al-Biruni hall confirmed the decision.

The university authority earlier suspended Mamun temporally on January 23 with the decision of a disciplinary board.   

A case was also filed against Mamun for assault on the teacher with Aushulia Thana. He is still at large.

It may be noted that Mamun assaulted his department's Chairman Associate Prof Golam Moinuddin Chisti physically on the campus as he didn't allow Mamun to attend the Master's final exam for his failure at the first semester.

During the attack, he also threatened to shoot to death two other teachers-Golam Kibria, Professor of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) and Sazedur Rahman, Assistant Professor of the Government and Politics Department as they came in the rescue of Prof Moinuddin.
