The authority of Jahangirnagar University (JU) temporarily expelled its eight students on Friday for their alleged involvement in sexual harassment of an indigenous female student on Pohela Boishakh night.
The expelled students are - Nishat Imtaiz Bizoy of Journalism and Media Studies Department, Nafiz Imtiaz and Ornob of Chemistry, Abdur Rahaman Ifti and Nurul Kabir of Anthropology, Rakib of Geography and Environment, Ashraf of History, and Bikas of Zoology.
All of them are leaders and activists of BCL (Bangladesh Chhatra League) JU unit, and residents of Shaheed Salam Barkat Hall.
JU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Farzana Islam expelled them applying her special power according to the University Disciplinary Board Act.
JU register Abu Bakkar Siddaque confirmed the incident to the FE correspondent.
Meantime, teachers and students of JU under the banner of 'Shikkhak Shikkharti Oikyo Moncho' announced to form a human chain programme at 11:00 am today (Saturday), demanding lifetime expulsion of the accused.
On Thursday, BCL JU unit expelled five of them - Nishat, Nafiz, Abdur Rahaman, Nurul Kabir and Rakib - from the organization, as their primary investigation found them guilty.
On Tuesday, 5 to 8 leaders and activists of BCL JU unit sexually harassed an indigenous female student on the campus at 7:30pm.
