JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Apr 01 (UNB): The university suspended five activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) for mugging and assault on Monday.

They are Sanjay Ghosh of Ddrama and Dramatics Department, Mohammad Al Razi of Government and Politics, Raihan Patwary of Geological Sciences, Mokarram Shiblu of Philosophy, and Shah Mostaq Shaikat of Computer Science.

Three of them were caught red-handed mugging and beating the relative of a JU employee at the botanical garden on the campus on Saturday morning.

Proctor ASM Firoz Ul Hasan said the decision was taken in the afternoon.

A four-member probe body, headed by Prof ATM Atikur Rahman, has been formed to look into the incident and submit a report within seven working days.

Further decisions about the five students will be taken after getting the report.

Razi, Sanjay and Raihan are loyal to BCL JU unit President Jewel Rana, while Shiblu is the cousin of BCL Secretary Abu Sufian Chanchal.

Proctor Firoz said the five students will not be able to attend regular classes and examinations. "They won't be allowed to stay in the residential halls either," he said.
