Awami Juba League (AJL) plans to assemble 0.5 million youths at its rally at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan in the city today (Saturday), reports BSS.
With the slogan 'upsurge of youths through people's empowerment' the AJL will organise the rally at 2:00 pm in observance of its 42nd founding anniversary.
This was disclosed at a press conference at Bangabandhu Avenue central office. AJL chairman Omar Faruque Chowdhury said Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will attend the rally as the chief guest and deliver an important speech to the nation.
He said: "We have been working relentlessly to create an upsurge among the youths of the nation. AJL wants economic emancipation of the country under the capable and farsighted leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
For the purpose, the country's youths are the driving force and for this reason we have been working to unite the youth-folk."
AJL was floated on November 11 in 1972 at the instruction of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Sheikh Fazlul Huq Moni was AJL's founder-chairman and Noore Alam Siddiqui was its first general secretary.
