Jubo League men assault contractor

THAKURGAON, Jan 20 (UNB): A contractor was beaten up allegedly by Awami Jubo League activists as he dropped tender schedule in Ranishankoil Upazila Monday without their permission.
Local people said a group of Jubo League activists were guarding the tender box kept outside the Engineering Department on the first floor of the Ranishankoil Upazila Parishad.
As contractor, Khokon Sarker, was obstructed by the Jubo League activists when he went to drop his tender, he approached the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and managed to drop his tender with the help of police.
The Jubo League activists beat the contractor when he came out of the Parishad after dropping his tender. The police rescued and admitted him to a local hospital.
Local Jubo League leaders, however, denied the incident of manhandling.
According to UNO Ershadul Haque, Monday was the last date of submission of tender schedule for construction of the Lehemba Union Parishad Complex involving Tk 5.90 million.
