A High Court (HC) Division Bench comprising Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury and M Ataur Rahman Khan began dictating bench officer the judgement in open court Wednesday morning. But it remained inconclusive when the court rose for the day.
"The judgement may be completed today (Thursday)," said a counsel for Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina, reports UNB.
The AL president was arrested on July 16, under the ongoing political purge in the changed situation. She is detained with a plethora of other cases hanging overhead.
The judgement will decide the fate of Hasina as to whether she should be tried in the warplane-purchase-scam, stalled in the trial court for long by HC orders.
The HC had stayed the trial proceedings, upon petitions filed by the AL chief and other accused for quashing the case related to alleged shady deals for the purchase of the supersonic fighter jets from Russia.
When Hasina was Prime Minister (1996-2001), eight Russian-made MIG fighter planes were procured for the Bangladesh Air Force.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the government incurred a loss of Tk 7.0 billion (700 crore) on account of the warplane purchase.
Former Army chief Mustafizur Rahman, ex-Air chief Jamal Uddin Ahmed, former defence secretary Syed Yousuf Hossain, Mirza Akhtar Maruf, ex-defence joint secretary Mohammad Hossain Serniabat and businessman Noor Ali are the other charge-sheeted accused in the case.
