Judicial probe into BCL leader killing in gunfight ordered

A Dhaka court on Tuesday ordered judicial inquiry against three Rapid Action Battalion personnel, including the RAB-2 commanding officer, in connection with killing of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL)’s Hazaribagh unit leader in a ‘shootout’ on August 18. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan passed the order in the morning. Meanwhile, commanding officer of RAB-2 Colonel Masud Rana was withdrawn on Monday over the death of Hazaribagh BCL leader Arzu. Earlier on August 23, a case was filed against three RAB members, including the CO of RAB-2, and an informant of the elite force with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court over Arzu’s death in the gun battle with the crime busting unit of police. The four accused are RAB-2 CO Colonel Masud Rana, DAD Shahinur Rahman, inspector Wahid and informant Ratan. Arzu’s brother, whose name is also Masud Rana, filed the case with Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan’s court. Former president of Hazaribagh thana unit BCL Arzu died in a shootout betweem RAB-2 members and his associates at Boraikhal in Ganaktuli under Hazaribagh Police Station on August 18, according to a news agency.
