Kamaruzzaman to file review petition today

Advocate Tajul Islam, counsel for death row convict Muhammad Kamaruzzaman, said on Wednesday his client will file a review petition against the Supreme Court (SC) verdict today (Thursday), reports BSS.

The SC upheld the death sentence given to him by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2, reports BSS.

Tajul disclosed this while talking to newsmen in front of Dhaka Central Jail, after he along with his four colleagues met the senior assistant secretary general of Jamaat.

Tajul, advocate Shishir Mohammad Monir, Barrister Ehsan A Siddique, Barrister Nazibur Rahman and advocate Matiur Rahman Akand met Kamaruzzaman at the jail and talked with him for 30 minutes.

"We have discussed matters relating to the review petition with him," Tajul said.

Earlier on February 21, Tajul and his four colleagues met the Jamaat leader in jail. On February 28, Kamaruzzaman's family members met him.

The ICT-2 on February 19 issued a warrant to execute death sentence of Kamaruzzaman, a day after the release of the full text of his appeal judgment.
