Detained BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has reportedly urged the party leaders and workers to remain united under Khondoker Delwar Hossain whom she had appointed BNP secretary general, reports UNB.
Talking to reporters at his Dhaka Housing apartment at Adabar in the city, BNP acting Office Secretary Rizvi Ahmed said he learnt from reliable sources that Khaleda has declared the Saifur-Hafiz committee as illegal.
Khaleda, who sacked Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan as secretary general on September 2, said Delwar's appointment as new secretary general is legal and urged the BNP members to remain united under his leadership.
However, no independent confirmation was available about Khaleda's remarks.
Meanwhile, Khaleda's adviser Hannan Shah said Friday he had conversation with some standing committee members, who told him that they were brought to Saifur's house against their will and they were forced to sign on a paper.
"They narrated to me the situation how they were hijacked to Saifur Rahman's house and were forced to sign on a blank paper," Shah told reporters.
On October 29, seven members of BNP standing committee at a meeting at Saifur's Gulshan house, appointed Saifur acting chairman and Hafizuddin Ahmed acting secretary general of BNP.
The standing committee meeting also withdrew the expulsion orders given by Khaleda against Mannan Bhuiyan and Ashraf Hossain and had inducted Bhuiyan into the BNP standing committee.
A day after the formation of the new committee, BNP secretary general Khondoker Delwar from his hospital bed at BIRDEM disclosed to reporters that some people from "certain quarters" threatened to kill him and his family if he does not quit the secretary general’s post.
