Publicity and publication affairs secretary of the ruling Awami League Dr Hasan Mahmud said Tuesday BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia might be humiliated by her party leaders and workers for her unilateral decision for not taking part in the January 5 national polls, reports BSS.
"BNP leaders and workers recently kept their Naya Paltan office under lock and key and assaulted their leaders. Begum Zia needs not face humiliation from the people as her party leaders and workers would be enough to do that," he said. Dr Hasan Mahmud said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion in the city.
Janatar Protyasha, a socio-cultural body, organised the discussion on "Successes only under the leadership Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina and defeat of the evil forces" at the Bir Uttam Khwaza Nizamuddin auditorium at Segunbagicha.
President of the organisation MA Karim chaired the discussion, also addressed, among others, by Dhaka City Awami League organising secretary Shahe Alam Murad, executive committee member Hedayetul Islam Swapan, Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote general secretary Arun Sarker Rana and Bangladesh Swadhinata Parishad president Zinnat Ali Khan.  Dr Hasan Mahmud said, "The country is marching ahead under the capable and farsighted leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the whole world is appreciating her leadership."
Criticising Begum Khaleda Zia for her Monday's remarks, the Awami League leader said, "As she (Begum Zia) is not aware of the current state of the country she is making baseless accusation that Bangladesh is lagging behind.  But, Nobel laureate Prof Amartya Sen applauded the economic progress of the country while the World Bank in its report mentioned that despite world economic recession, Bangladesh's economy has been gaining momentum."
