Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia has pushed the party towards rift with the expulsion of Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan and Ashraf Hossain.
BNP standing committee member Mahbubur Rahman said this in a statement Monday, reports UNB.
"Khaleda Zia's decision of expelling Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan and Ashraf Hossain from the party is undemocratic and unconstitutional. It is Khaleda Zia who herself has pushed the party towards rift when the party was supposed to uphold unity and patience", he said.
The statement also included names of 132 BNP leaders as supporters of the anti-Khaleda stand, but there was no signature against the names.
Rahman said Bhuiyan took initiatives to hold a council to implement the proposed reforms inside the party in line with the expectations of most of the BNP leaders and workers.
"Bhuiyan took the step after the historical change over on January 11. But Khaleda Zia has again pushed the party to a crisis.
"We describe the expulsion as imprudent and divisive, and reject the decision", he said.
Mahbub urged the BNP leaders and activists to uphold the party's unity and advance the reform process with the spirit of ideology of late President Ziaur Rahman.
