MAGURA, Mar 8, (BSS): Awami League (AL) joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, MP, said on Sunday BNP, along with the Jamaat-e-Islami, is trying to make Bangladesh a failed state.
"But their dream will never come true. The people of the country will resist them," he said while speaking as the special guest at the triennial conference of district Awami League at Magura Nomani Maidan.
The AL leader said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia would have to face trial for killing people with petrol bombs.
He said Bangladesh became world champion in corruption five times during the BNP rule from 2001 to 2006.
He blamed Tarique Rahman for maintaining militancy links during that period and for the August 21 grenade attack and the killing of former Finance Minister Shah AMS Kibria, Ahsanullah Master and about 26,000 AL leaders and activists.
In the same way, BNP is currently killing people with petrol bombs in the name of hartal and blockade, Hanif said, adding that their illogical programmes are hampering the education system.
The BNP is trying to affect the normal life of the people, but the people are not abiding by its call for hartal and blockade, the AL joint general secretary said.
Presided over by Magura district AL acting president Tanzen Hossain Khan, the conference was inaugurated by AL Presidium Member Kazi Zafarullah.
