BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has urged the ruling Awami League to step down before it gets bogged down under the weight of its 'failures', reports bdnews24.com.
Apparently suggesting an election defeat, she also threatened that 'dire consequences' await the ruling party if it did not step down immediately.
The Leader of the Opposition advised the ruling government to abdicate power in order to strengthen the democratic process. "But if you do not, no one will be able to save you."
"The government should start the process of stepping down from office as the people of the country do not want to see them in power anymore," she added.
Khaleda Zia said this while speaking at a discussion Sunday organised marking the 32nd founding anniversary of Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal, BNP's youth front.
Khaleda Zia also urged the Juba Dal leaders and activists to reinforce the organisation from the grassroots to the highest levels.
She slated the trend of the ruling party declaring simultaneous demonstrations at the same venue where BNP arranges its programmes.
"The government is imposing Section 144 to stop us," she said.
