BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia warned of an oust-government movement if free, fair and panic-free election atmosphere is not created with immediate deployment of army in Bhola-3 parliamentary constituency and if the government holds the election unilaterally for its own interest, reports UNB.
The opposition leader threatened to wage the oust-government movement in a statement protesting the attack on BNP national executive member Nazimuddin Alam, a former MP, at an election meeting of BNP at Satni of Farashganj union under Lalmohan Upazila of Bhola by Awami League terrorists Thursday.
Mr Alam, Chief Election Coordinator of BNP candidate Maj (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed, received serious head injury in the attack. The Awami League (AL) terrorists also unleashed attack on Maj (retd) Hafiz and damaged his vehicle while he went to Lalmohan hospital to see injured Alam, the statement said.
Referring to various incidents in Bhola-3 parliamentary constituency ahead of the April 24 by-election, Khaleda said apprehension was being created among public mind over the consequences of the Bhola-3 by-election and the 'ill-planning' of the government.
She said the attack was made on Nazimuddin Alam to scare the voters in the area against voting for BNP candidate, so it became easy to win the election by the ruling party candidate.
Khaleda said the intensity of the ruling party's terrorism is increasing day by day although BNP lodged a regular complaint with the Election Commission about deterioration of law and order in the Bhola-3 constituency (Lalmohan-Tojumuddin).
The BNP chairperson demanded proper treatment of Alam, arrest and trial of his attackers and exemplary punishment to them.
