Khaleda Zia joins JS session for only three days

Leader of the Oppositions in Parliament Begum Khaleda Zia and other BNP lawmakers remained absent for 47 working days in a row until the third session of the ninth parliament.
Begum Khaleda Zia, also BNP chairperson, was present in only three working days of the first session of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS).
Of the three days, she was present on the first day of the session, the middle of the session and the last day, Parliamentary Secretariat sources told BSS in the city Monday.
According to the records of legal section of the Parliament Secretariat, Begum Zia was present on January 25, March 1 and April 7.
She remained totally absent during the second and third sessions of parliament. As per the records, the number of her date of absence was 83 working days.
The BNP lawmakers would lose their membership if they remain absent in parliament for another 43 days, which would be a total of 90 working days. Although the opposition lawmakers joined the first session of the ninth parliament they remained absent for 16 working days, the sources said.
BNP lawmakers have been abstaining from joining parliament sessions on demand of getting seats in the front rows. However, they are taking part in the Parliamentary Standing Committee meetings.
