Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, MP, condemned the cruelty and barbarism unleashed by Khaleda Zia on the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinees, reports BSS.
"We are passing through painful times. Militant-style subversion is taking place. Bomb-users were removing (railway) fish-plates, petrol bombs were being thrown at people, cruelly," the minister said.
He praised the role of Village Police in safeguarding people's lives and property.
Inu was speaking as chief guest at a meeting organised by the Union of Village Police at the Shagar-Runi auditorium of the Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU).
He further said that Khaleda wants to usurp power by holding the nation and the examinees hostage. He also criticised Khaleda's expression of kindness, yesterday, as "The Devil speaking of God" and said she wants to subvert the examination and illegally capture power.
He described the bomb attacks, arson and petrol bomb attacks as a primitive form of cruelty.
The minister asked those who talk of rapprochement to talk to Khaleda Zia first and persuade her to stop the barbarism and cruelty. "After that request the government for talks," he said.
Referring to the Village Police, he said, their demands were justified, adding that their salary of Taka 2,000 was inhumane. He appreciated their role in maintaining law and order in the rural areas.
Chairman of the standing committee on labour and employment ministry, Israful Alam, MP, who also spoke on the occasion, wondered whether Khaleda Zia was obstructing the children from passing the SSC exams because she herself had failed to do so.
