Amid widespread criticisms about his 'dubious' role during the party's pre-election movement, BNP vice-president Sadeque Hossain Khoka has decided to step down from the post of convener of the party's Dhaka city unit, reports UNB.
He came up with the announcement while addressing a press conference at Bhashani Hall in city's Nayapaltan area.
"I've already conveyed my decision to party Chairperson Khaleda Zia," he told reporters.
"I feel the urgent need to reorganise and strengthen the Dhaka city unit of BNP. I've asked the leader (Khaleda Zia) to reorganise the Dhaka city unit. I've performed responsibly for long 17 years," the BNP vice chairman claimed.
The announcement came three days after the party standing committee members discussed reconstitution of the city committee with Khaleda Zia.
Recently, Khaleda Zia came down heavily on the city unit leaders for their weak role in the anti-government movement over the January 5 national election.
