Killing, repression won't sustain AL's reign: Fakhrul

Strongly condemning the arrests of opposition leaders and workers, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday warned that the government would not be able to survive by resorting to killing and repressive acts, reports UNB.
In a statement, he said, "No autocratic regime in the past could finally survive by resorting to killing, repression and arrests in their bid to suppress justified demands of people. Finally, the Awami League government will also not be able to survive."
The BNP leader alleged that the government unleashed the ruling party cadres and the law enforcers to kill and harass people as part of its move to brutally subdue the innocent student movement.
"Besides, the government is arresting the opposition leaders and workers on fabricated charges," he said.
He also strongly condemned the arrest of BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, executive committee member Nipun Roy Chowdhury and Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Hoque Nur in connection with street violence.
