Awami League (AL) Advisory Council member Suranjit Sengupta, MP, said Friday incidents of killings and forced disappearance of persons are not pleasant for the democratic system of governance, reports BSS.
"These incidents can't be acceptable at all. The government should be harder in this connection. The administration should not be liberal. A zero tolerance should be shown to those culprits. Terrorists, whoever they might be, should be nabbed," he said.
Suranjit Sengupta, a senior lawmaker of the ruling AL, said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion in the city organised by Bangabandhu Academy in the city with its adviser Chitta Ranjan Das in the chair.
Former joint secretary of AL Mozaffar Hossain Paltu, Dhaka City AL vice-president Faezuddin Miah, joint secretary Haji Md Selim, MP and Samyabadi Dal leader Haroon Chowdhury were the discussants, among others.
Suranjit said, "There might be involvement and intimidation of the BNP-led alliance behind the recent incidents of killings and forced disappearance of persons in many places throughout the country. The administration must contain them (culprits) with iron hand."
He said, "All quarters should take a neutral stance against killings and forced disappearance of persons. The government should show a non-compromising attitude and a zero tolerance towards the criminals for the sake of ensuring good governance in accordance with people's expectations."
