Labour minister for proper utilization of char lands

FARIDPUR, May 23 (BSS): Labour, Employment and Expatriates' Welfare Minister Khondoker Mosharraf Hossain today stressed the need for proper utilization of vast tract of char lands in Faridpur Sadar, Charbhadrasan and Sadarpur upazilas of the district and bringing those under cultivation to attain self-sufficiency in food as soon as possible.
Addressing a meeting of the District Development Coordination Committee (DDC) this morning in the conference room of the deputy commissioner (DC), Mosharraf ordered the DC to form a strong committee immediately to determine the present status of the vast char lands of the district emerging on the bed of the river Padma.
He advised the DC to free the lands from illegal occupants and distribute those among the landless people in line with the policy initiated by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The meeting, presided over by DC Helaluddin Ahmed, reviewed the progress of all development works in the district.
The minister also stressed the need for setting up the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Faridpur Medical College Hospital (FMCH) immediately which was pending for a long time and sinking of deep tubewells in the district particularly in the arsenic prone areas.
The minister said the present Public Procurement Rules (PPR), formulated for protecting the interest of some vested quarters, would be changed to ensure more transparency and wide participation of contractors and suppliers.
Mosharraf sought the cooperation of the government officials to implement the policy of the government and work impartially without doing any favour to anybody. He also advised the officials to keep themselves above politics.
