JHENAIDAH, June 17 (BSS): Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman has said anyone who attempts to lobby on behalf of rapists or individuals involved in drug trafficking will face legal action and be sent behind bars.
"The government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against drugs and rape. If any political leader also makes such interventions, that leader will also be sent to jail under the same case. Even if it is a leader from my own party, they will not be spared," he said.
The law minister made the remarks while addressing a views-exchange meeting at the Jhenaidah Deputy Commissioner's office on Wednesday.
Presided over by Jhenaidah Deputy Commissioner Md Noman Hossain, the meeting was also addressed by District Council Administrator MA Majid, valiant freedom fighter Kamaluzzaman, civil surgeon Dr Kamruzzaman Sohel, 58 BGB Commander Lt Col Rafikul Alam, Superintendent of Police Miah Mohammad Ashis Bin Hasan, Jhenaidah Press Club president Asif Iqbal and district BNP general secretary Zahiduzzaman Mona.
Criticising negligence among government officials, the law minister said many public servants at the district and upazila levels still fail to maintain discipline in the workplace despite the country's leadership setting an example.
"The prime minister of the country starts office at 9:00 am, but many government officials at the district and upazila levels still show reluctance to come to office on time. If officials properly discharge their duties from their respective positions, there will be no crisis in society or the state," he said.
