Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and Jatiya Party (JP-Monju) Monday urged the Election Commission (EC) to announce the election schedules for the DCC, Upazila and parliamentary polls on the same day to remove the controversy in this regard, reports UNB.brThe schedules for the Upazila and national polls can be announced on the same day for removing controversy… but the polls can be held on different dates, LDP President Col (retd) Oli Ahmed told journalists after holding a dialogue with the EC.brResponding to the EC's invitation LDP and JP (Monju) participated in the third round dialogue with the EC. But Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh and Islami Oikya Jote boycotted the meeting with the EC, which was also scheduled for the day.brLDP delegation comprising party leaders Jahanara Begum, Redwan Ahmed and Alamgir Kabir led by Col Oli Ahmed attended the meeting held at the EC secretariat.brCol Oli said the state of emergency should be withdrawn for creating the atmosphere for a free and fair election.brHe observed that all political parties should register with the EC and said LDP would apply for its registration for ensuring transparency and accountability within the party.brThe LDP leader said all political parties should come forward with a positive move to restore democracy in the country.brReplying to a question, he said Upazila election should not be held before the general election but all the election schedules, including that of Dhaka City Corporation (DCC), could be set for the same day.brA five member JP (Monju) delegation led by its secretary general Sheikh Shahidul Islam participated in the dialogue with EC at 1230 pm.brShahidul Islam said the EC should settle all problems after discussing with the political parties and hold the general election before the Upazila polls.brHe urged the EC to declare the election schedules for DCC, Upazila and general polls on the same day, but polls could be held on different dates.brHe said the state of emergency should be withdrawn for holding the elections.
