He passed away at 05:00 pm on Sunday at Square Hospital, according to Mohammad Ullah Madhu, the party's information and media secretary.
Montu had been unwell for nearly two months and was making regular visits to the hospital.

In 1992, he was expelled from the Awami League. Shortly afterwards, Dr Kamal Hossain left the Awami League and formed the Gono Forum.
Montu later joined Gono Forum under Kamal Hossain's leadership.
In 2009, he was elected the general secretary of the party and remained active as its president until his death.
