Liton Akand arrested from Jatrabari

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested Liton Akand, along with two associates, in the capital's Jatrabari area for their involvement in violent attack on students and the public during the recent Anti-discrimination Student Movement, reports UNB.

He was arrested in the early hours of Friday, confirmed ASP Imran Khan of RAB Headquarters (media wing).

A video showing Liton wielding a machete and attacking protesters during the Anti-discrimination Movement went viral on social media. Following the incident, RAB intensified its surveillance to apprehend Liton and his accomplices.

During the raid on Liton's hideout in Jatrabari, RAB-3 recovered four machetes, which were allegedly used in the attacks, along with illegal drugs and a quantity of gunpowder.

Liton faces multiple charges, including three cases filed over the violence in Jatrabari, three cases under the Drug Control Act, one related to preparation for robbery, and one additional case.

Authorities have also revealed that Liton was involved in extortion in the area and subjected those who refused to comply to various forms of torture.
