Speakers at a meeting held to observe the historic Mujibnagar Day said a crude conspiracy is on to distort the history and the only way it can be resisted is by creating a historically-conscious society and state, reports BSS.
There is no scope to distort the history of our Liberation War 43 years after the independence. But the conspirators are still active trying to distort it to derive political benefit from it. So it is necessary to build a society, which is historically Conscious, said Barrister Amirul Islam who had drafted the proclamation of independence at a meeting at the National Museum auditorium Thursday.
The deputy chief of the Liberation Forces, Air Vice Marshal A K Khandaker presided over the meeting organised by the Sector Commanders' Forum on the occasion of the Mujibnagar Day.
Others who spoke on the occasion included Maj Gen AKM Shafiullah, Bir Uttam, who was a sector commander during the Liberation War and is currently the vice-chair of the Sector Commanders' Forum and Abu Osman Chowdhury, another sector commander of the Liberation War.
Barrister Amir said the anti-Liberation forces are engaged in a crude conspiracy using religion. They are distorting history. If they are not resisted now, they will conspire with the nation in future.
Lamenting he said, we have become ahistorical nation. So we need to tell the young generation the true history of the Liberation War.
He advised the education ministry to make the history of the Liberation War mandatory from primary to university level.
Barrister Amirul Islam said if the society and state are historically conscious nobody can distort history, afresh.
KM Shafiullah said, " Without the Father of the Nation there would have been no Bangladesh - those who do not accept this are not citizens of this country."
He further added, " Before Zia read out the declaration of independence it was broadcast by Chittagong Radio and Radio Pakistan had spread the news of Bangabandhu's declaration of independence."
He cited important documents of the Liberation War and condemned Khaleda Zia and her son, Tareque Zia's effort to distort it and remarked that this is not only an effort to distort history but a deep-rooted conspiracy to erase it.
