Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court Wednesday remanded controversial businessman Giasuddin Al Mamun for seven more days to allow the police to further question him in a corruption case, report agencies.
The investigating officer appealed to the CMM Court for Dhaka to hold Mamun, a friend and close business associate of BNP first Joint Secretary General Tarique Rahman, on 15 days' remand.
But metropolitan magistrate Jagannath Das Khokon granted seven days for questioning.
The case against Mamun and his wife Shahina Yasmin was filed on May 2 with the Cantonment police station charging him with holding back information on ill-gotten property worth Tk 622.2 million (62.22 crore) in the wealth statement he had submitted to the Anti-corruption Commis-sion.
