A special judge's court sent Shahina, wife of controversial businessman Giasuddin Al Mamun, to jail refusing her bail plea, reports bdnews24.com.
Shahina, who was convicted in absentia for possessing illegally obtained wealth, surrendered to Judge Jesmine Anwar of the Special Judge's Court-4 Tuesday.
The Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case in May 2007 against Mamun and Shahina for possessing wealth beyond their known legal sources amounting to Tk 1.11 billion.
A special judge's court had sentenced Mamun on March 27, 2008 to 10 years in jail and imposed a fine of Tk 1.0 million. Shahina, who was tried in absentia, received three years in jail and a fine of Tk 0.5 million.
The court had said that her punishment would take effect from the day she was arrested or surrendered to the court.
Mamun secured bail from the High Court in the case.
