Maulana Mamunul Haque, ameer of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis and the 11-party alliance candidate in Dhaka-13, exercised his voting right during the first hour of polling on Thursday.
He cast his vote at around 8:10 am at the Government Physical Education College centre on Sat Masjid Road in Mohammadpur. Before voting, he visited several booths at the centre to observe the process.
Speaking to journalists after visiting the Kaderia Tayyebia Kamil Madrasa polling centre in Mohammadpur, Mamunul Haque alleged irregularities and intimidation in some areas. He claimed that mismanagement was apparent inside certain polling centres, while voters were being intimidated outside others.
Referring to specific incidents, he alleged that BNP leader Rajesh Khan was orchestrating voter intimidation outside nearly all polling centres in Ward 34 of Rayerbazar. He also claimed that disturbances were reported at several centres in the Agargaon-Taltala area.
The Dhaka-13 constituency comprises Wards 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33 and 34 of the Dhaka North City Corporation. It has a total of 408,791 registered voters, including 209,812 men, 198,971 women and eight third-gender voters.
In the constituency, Mamunul Haque is contesting against several candidates, including Bobby Hajjaj, founder and chairman of the Nationalist Democratic Movement (NDM) and BNP nominee with the paddy sheaf symbol, and Mizanur Rahman of the Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP), contesting with the truck symbol.
