Man killed in Kanchan polls violence

NARAYANGANJ, Jun 28 (UNB): A man was hacked to death in a clash between supporters of two rival candidates during Kanchan municipality election in Rupganj Upazila Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Sukamal, 50.
Dr Khandakar Mahiduddin, superintendent of police, Narayanganj, said supporters of two rival candidates, equipped with lethal weapons, tried to occupy the Tarail-1 Government Primary School polling centre at around 10:15 am.
When police tried to disperse them, a chase and counter-chase took place between them.
At one stage, some people whose identity could not be ascertained, hacked Sukamal indiscriminately, leaving him dead on the spot.
Additional police members were deployed in the area to avert further trouble.
