Mayor Mohiuddin produced before court

CHITTAGONG, Dec 26 (UNB): Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury was produced before the Chittagong Divisional Special Judge’s Court today (Wednesday) in Bijoy TV corruption case.
Mayor Mohiuddin, who was brought to the Chittagong Central Jail from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in Dhaka Tuesday, was taken to the court at about 9:50am. After the legal formalities were completed, he was taken back to Dhaka by road.
Judge SM Solaiman ordered publication of a government gazette notification about another accused in the case, CCC Chief Engineer Mokhter Alam, showing him absconding as he did not appear before the court.
After publishing the gazette notification, hearing on the charge framing in the case will be held on January 1, 2008, the judge further ordered.
Deputy Director of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Chittagong Abu Md Arif Siddiqui filed the case on May 27, 2007 against five people, including Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, on charge of embezzling Tk 8.0 million (80 lakh) from the CCC fund in the name of launching the private television channel through abuse of power.
