Media should criticise with responsibility: Info minister

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said on Tuesday journalists should criticise the government in a responsible manner, reports BSS.

"We are aware of the critical role of the media in a democratic society, but we are also aware of what irresponsibility can do."

Elaborating further he said the present government is committed to democracy, and so it welcomes criticism, although certain pests and insects might enter through open window.

"Nevertheless we will not close the window. We want the media to be objective. But on certain fundamental issues, like - the Liberation War, democracy and social peace, we have no choice but to be partisan," the minister added.

He was speaking at a meeting, organised by a regional daily 'Noakhali Protidin' on its third founding anniversary. Chief of its editorial board Md Nasiruddin chaired the programme.

Among others, Ekramul Karim Chowdhury, MP, also spoke on the occasion.
