Media urged to learn lesson of self-restraint

Prime Minister's International Affairs Adviser Prof Dr Gowher Rizvi Tuesday said the media has to learn the lesson of self-restraint and they have to control themselves, reports BSS.
"Journalist should not do anything beyond their professional ethics. Only making sensational reports will not do, they have to rely on information. Without the proper information, the report will become propaganda," he said.
Dr Rizvi came up with the observations while addressing a discussion titled "Recent Aspect of Journalism in Bangladesh" and presenting prizes among the winners of Investigative Journalism Award-2014 organised by Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB).
Presided over by president of TIB trustee board and former adviser to the caretaker government Advocate Sultana Kamal and conducted by TIB executive director Dr Iftekharuzzaman, the function was addressed by head of news of Independent Television Khalid Mohiuddin, Prof Rubayet Ferdaus of Dhaka University, special correspondent of Jamuna Television Alamgir Swapan, news editor of Bangla Vision Sharmin Rinvi, among others.
