Meherpur municipality chairman sent to jail

MEHERPUR, June 9 (UNB): Meherpur Municipality Chairman arrested in an extortion case was sent to jail when produced before the court today.
Joint forces picked up Motassim Billah Motu from his home in the town Friday night.
Police said Ahlladi Begum, a resident of Malopara in the town, filed the case against Motassim on June 8 accusing him of demanding Tk 0.20 million from her.
She said the chairman called her to his office on April 10 and demanded the toll with promise of returning her long disputed land that the municipality used for drainage of arsenic waste.
