Minister files Tk1b defamation suit against rival candidate

BRAHMANBARIA, Jan 13 (UNB): Newly-appointed Minister of Housing and Public Works RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury has filed a defamation case of Tk 1.0billion (Tk100 crore) against one of his opponents in the January 7 election.

According to the case filed by the new minister, Firozur Rahman who was an independent candidate for Brahmanbaria-3 (Sadar-Bijaynagar) constituency, is a licensed narcotics trader, and deliberately spread false and defamatory statements in various places including an election rally to tarnish his (Muktadir's) image.
