Minister responsible for RMG unrest: BNP

Opposition BNP on Tuesday held a minister responsible for the ongoing turmoil in the country's readymade garment (RMG) sector, reports UNB.
"After recent various shocking incidents in the sector, including Rana Plaza collapse, all of a sudden a minister has emerged. He held a meeting with workers in Dhaka bringing them from various parts of the country. The fresh unrest is the outcome of that," said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Projonmo arranged the programme on holding the next polls under a non-party caretaker government.
Apparently referring to Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan who held a meeting with workers on Saturday, the BNP spokesman said a new conspiracy has been hatched under the minister's guidance to destroy the RMG sector and cripple the economy.
The meeting was organised under the banner of 'Garment Sramik Samannoy Parishad' with Shajahan Khan in the chair at Suhrawardy Udyan to push their demand for re-fixing their minimum wage at Tk 8114.
Another report adds: Senior BNP leader Moudud Ahmed on Tuesday threatened to cripple the government through a strong movement in November if it does not accept their demand for restoration of the caretaker government (CG) by October 24.
"We want to tell the government that there's still time to accept our demand for restoration of the non-party CG. Or else, the government will be paralysed as the ongoing movement will take a serious turn in November under the leadership of Khaleda Zia," he told a discussion.
Moudud, also a BNP standing committee member, issued the threat apparently reacting to the Home Minister's recent remark that BNP has no capability to carry out any movement.
Jatiyatabadi Zia Samaj Kalyan Parishad arranged the discussion, titled 'Political crisis and necessity of caretaker government', at the Jatiya Press Club.
Earlier on Sunday, Home Minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir said BNP has no organisational strength to carry out a strong street movement.
"BNP has no right to create anarchy in the country in the name of movement. If they try to do that we'll resist them with an iron hand and the government has such strength," he said while talking to reporters after a high-level inter-ministerial meeting on law and order at the Secretariat.
Moudud later addressed another discussion organised by Jatiyatabadi Gano Dal at the Jatiya Press Club.
