Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Quasem Ali who awaits judgment on the trial of crimes committed against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War was shifted to Dhaka Central Jail from Kashimpur Jail in Gazipur Friday, reports UNB.
The International Crimes Tribunal-2 (ICT-2) is set to pronounce its judgment Sunday in the war crimes case against the Jamaat policymaker.
Mir Quasem Ali has been brought to the Dhaka Central Jail at about 2:30pm, Senior Jail Super of Dhaka Forman Ali told the news agency.
After six months of closing the trial, the ICT-2 Thursday set Sunday to pronounce its judgment on war crimes accused Mir Quasem Ali.
On May 4, the tribunal kept pending the verdict on war crimes accused Quasem Ali to be delivered any day after formally closing law-point arguments from both sides in the trial.
On May 26, 2013, the tribunal took cognisance of the charges made against Quasem Ali, also chairman of private television channel Diganta (operation now suspended) as it found a strong prima facie case against the accused under subsections 3(2), 4(1) and 4(2) of the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act 1973.
