Mirza Abbas, Alal, Hasan Sarwardy placed on remand

A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed BNP's Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas and Joint Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, and retired Lieutenant General Chowdhury Hasan Sarwardy on remand in three different cases.

Judge of the Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka, Shafi Uddin, passed the orders after hearing on the cases.

Mirza Abbas who was arrested on Tuesday has been placed on a five-day remand in a case filed with the capital's Shahjahanpur Police Station under the Sabotage and Explosives Substances Act.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin passed the remand order against him as police produced the senior BNP leader before the court at 3.00pm and pleaded to place him on a five-day remand in the case.

Moazzem Hossain Alal was also placed on a five-day remand in a case filed with Paltan Police Station on charges of sabotage and explosion.

Retired Lieutenant General Chowdhury Hasan Sarwardy was placed on an eight-day remand in a case filed for alleged breach of trust with Paltan Police Station, Dhaka.

Earlier on the day, the police produced Chowdhury Hasan Sarwardy in court and applied for a 10-day remand.

The court granted eight days' remand after hearing. He was arrested by the police from Savar on Tuesday in the case.
