Miscreants shoot UPDF man dead in Rangamati

RANGAMATI, Jan 29 (UNB): An activist of United People's Democratic Front (UPDF), a Chittagong Hill Tracts-based political group, was shot dead by unidentified assailants at Bhuiyachara in Langadu upazila on Tuesday.

The victim is Pabitra Chakma (38), a collector of UPDF and son of Shanti Priyo Chakma .

Ranjan Kumar Shamanto, officer-in-charge (OC) of Longadu thana, said miscreants swooped on Pabitra and opened fire around 2:30 pm while he was taking rest at a friend's house. He died on the spot.

A team of police and army was scheduled to go to Langadu to retrieve the body, the OC said. The motive for the killing could not be known immediately, he added.
