MMCH intern doctors enforce strike

MYMENSINGH, Feb 25 (UNB): Intern doctors of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) went on indefinite strike Thursday night protesting against attack on them by some local people. Sources said when Arif, an intern doctor, was taking tea in a canteen on the campus with his female classmate, a youth named Suman, teased the girl. Arif and his colleagues later caught Suman, a resident of nearby Charpara area, and gave him a good beating taking him to the nearby doctors' canteen. When Suman's relatives rushed in to rescue Suman, the intern doctors also beat them up. Following the incident, some people of Charpara area launched an attacked on the intern doctors. They also vandalized different rooms of the hospital. A chase and counter-chase took place between intern doctors and local people that turned the hospital area into a battle field. Later, the intern doctors went on indefinite strike demanding arrest of the stalker and the local people who launched attack on them. The strike caused untold sufferings to the patients of the hospital.
