A Dhaka court has placed model Simu Akter Bristy, alias Misty Subhash, and one Rafikul Islam on different terms of remand in a case lodged under the Anti-Terrorism Act, report agencies.

Of the two, Misty was placed on a two-day remand, while Rafikul on a three-day remand.

Dhaka Judicial Magistrate Md Tajul Islam Sohagh passed the order on Friday as police produced the duo before the court and pleaded to place them on a five-day remand each in the case.

The two were detained from the National Memorial in Savar on March 26, along with 22-25 activists of the Awami League, which has been banned from carrying out political activities. They allegedly gathered in front of the memorial's main altar in an attempt to destabilise law and order.

Police later filed a case with Ashulia Police under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

According to the complaint, they carried placards bearing images of ousted Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and shouted slogans including "Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu", "We reject the illegal government born of an illegal election", and "Sheikh Hasina will return, Bangladesh will smile".

Investigators alleged the gathering was intended to create a provocative situation inside the country.

On Friday, Sub-Inspector Md Shahiduzzaman sought five days' remand for each suspect, while the defence appealed for bail and dismissal of the remand request. The court, after hearing both sides, granted remand.

Following the July Uprising that ousted the Awami League government, authorities imposed a ban on all party activities in May last year and suspended its registration as a political party.
