Money-laundering case against Mirza Abbas revived

August 04, 2009 00:00:00

The Supreme Court (SC) Monday revived the proceedings of a money-laundering case against former housing and public works minister Mirza Abbas of BNP stalling a High Court (HC) judgment, reports UNB.
Passing the interim orders upon a government plea, Chamber Judge M Muzammel Hossain asked to file within three weeks a regular application for leave to appeal against the HC judgment.
Upon a quashing petition, the High Court on July 22 set aside the money-laundering case proceedings against Abbas on the grounds of procedural flaws done during the past whirlwind over the political arena.
On February 4, 2007, the Motijheel police filed the case against Abbas after joint forces allegedly seized a large amount of local and foreign currencies from his South Shahjahanpur house in the capital.
