BAGERHAT, Mar 13 (UNB): The local administration called off the rescue operation Friday noon after recovery of seven bodies from the collapsed building at Mongla port area.
Brigadier General Mohammad Selim, acting chairman of Sena Kalyan Sangstha and Sheikh Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, deputy-director of Fire Service and Civil Defence (Khulna) made the announcement around 12:35 pm.
Brig Gen Selim said at least 46 injured workers were rescued from the rubble of the collapsed building.
They were admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital, upazila health complexes in Mongla and Rampal and Jessore Combined Military Hospital (CMH), he said.
"The rescue operation was conducted with utmost importance by using all modern equipment. There is no more body inside the building", he said.
"Necessary steps will be taken after getting the probe committee report", he added.
The death toll from Thursday's building collapse in Mongla Port area rose to seven as rescuers retrieved one more body from the debris of the collapsed building early Friday.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Arif Nazmul said the rescuers retrieved the body of an unidentified man from the rubble of the collapsed building early in the morning.
