Move on to arrest Khaleda: BNP

January 23, 2015 00:00:00

Taking a swipe at the prime minister for her remarks in parliament about their party chief involving her in acts of sabotage, BNP spokesman Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged Thursday that the government is conspiring to arrest Khaleda Zia to remove her from politics, reports UNB.

In a statement he said, "The prime minister needs power. She considers our leader Khaleda Zia is the main obstacle to her way to cling to power. That's why preparations for staging a drama of plot to arrest her (Khaleda) are going on as part of their (govt) continued conspiracy to remove her from politics."

Mr Rizvi, a BNP joint secretary general, alleged that the government has now made Khaleda its target, the leading representative of the nationalist force, after brutally oppressing the leaders and activists of the 20-party alliance and taking their blood. "It's their last poisonous bite."

Issuing a note of warning to the government, the BNP leader said, "Don't play with fire and don't try to invite a great disaster. The democracy-loving nationalist forces that are on the movement will remain beside Khaleda Zia even sacrificing their last drop of blood."

Criticising law enforcers for what he said repressing the opposition, Rizvi said, "You're no longer state forces as the government has turned you into Awami law- enforcement agencies. They (govt) are drenching the entire country with the blood of opposition men through you."

He said the law enforcers have become a symbol of horror to people as they, at the behest of the government, are carrying out cruel attacks on the opposition.

Mr Rizvi also threatened the law enforcers with dire consequences if they do not stop their repressive acts on the opposition.

The BNP leader demanded the government release immediately those opposition leaders and activists arrested during the blockade programme.
