BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir Friday said the anti-government movement will be intensified to restore the government of people in the country, reports UNB.
"To make the country free from the (current) situation, today our vow should be to establish a government of people through an election under a non-party administration ousting the current fascist regime," he said.
Mirza Fakhrul was talking to reporters when BNP leaders and activists, led by its chairperson Khaleda Zia, went to place wreaths at the grave of party founder Ziaur Rahman in the capital marking the President's 33rd death anniversary.
The BNP spokesperson said there is no guarantee of natural death of people in the country.
"Today, there's no democracy in the country. The government has created a suffocated environment by resorting to forced disappearances, abductions and killings. False cases are being filed against the opposition leader and activists one after another," he alleged.
Fakhrul alleged that the government snatched the rights of people and is resorting to repressive acts against the opposition in a bid to hang onto power.
There's no alternative to movement for ousting this government, he added.
On this day, on May 30, 1981, Zia was assassinated by a group of disgruntled army officers at Chittagong Circuit House.
